Sikeston MASH Camp

High school students from the Sikeston and Poplar Bluff area attended the Sikeston MASH Camp on Wednesday, August 3 and Thursday, August 4 at the Sikeston Career & Technology Center.  The first day of MASH Camp included: an ambulance tour, patient intubation demonstration and hands-on activity, DNA extraction, injections and venipuncture (blood draw),  infection control, proper hand washing, proper gloving procedures, vital signs, and CPR and first aid training.  Camp activities the second day included:  Healthcare Scattergories, Air Evac helicopter tour, visual exploration activity, blood typing, medical school and health career discussion with current medical students, suturing on bananas, cow eyeball dissection lab.  A special thank you goes out to the Sikeston Air Evac Lifeteam; the South Scott County Ambulance Service; Gloria Houston, RN; and Joel Phelps, 4th year medical student, Emma Hall and Joseph Martz 3rd year medical students for helping facilitate this exciting learning opportunity.
