On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, the Puxico Junior High HOSA Club spent their day in Sikeston visiting various health care related facilities. They began their field trip with a stop at the Kenny Rogers Children’s Center. The Kenny Rogers Children’s Center serves children with all types of special needs and developmental delays including Prematurity, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Seizure Disorder, Autism, ADHD, Sensory Processing Dysfunction and many other developmental delays. Club members were given a tour of the center by Executive Director Michelle Fayette. They learned about the work being done by Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists at the center. You can learn more about the Kenny Rogers Children’s Center by visiting their website at www.kennyrogerscenter.org.
Club members then visited New Dawn State School. This school was designed to meet the special needs of children with mental and physical disabilities. The club members visited several class rooms and also spoke with students who attend the school.
Club members were then treated to lunch at Lambert’s Cafe. After they had their fill of throwed rolls, the next stop was MSSU’s Dental Hygiene Program located at the Southeast Missouri State University Sikeston Campus. The club members toured the dental clinic and participated in the following hands-on activities: making impressions of their thumbs and taking x-rays.
The club then made their way to the SEMO Aquatic Center in Cape Girardeau to have some fun before heading back home!
