On Saturday, November 14, 2015, 9 new ACES students attended Jumpstart at the SEMO AHEC Office in Poplar Bluff. Jumpstart, as the name implies, gives new ACES students a “jumpstart” on their future health career. During this 6 hour workshop, students learned more about the ACES program, how to take vital signs, and met other students accepted into the program. They also learned about the importance of HIPAA, patient confidentiality, job shadowing etiquette, health literacy, cultural competency, public health, and infection control.
A special thank you goes out to Amber Mirza for volunteering her time to help facilitate the hands-on portion of Jumpstart!
