2015 Sikeston MASH Camp for High School Students

High school students from Sikeston, Bloomfield, Dexter, New Madrid, East Prairie, Bell City, Bonne Terre, and Portageville attended the Sikeston MASH Camp on Thursday, July 30, 2015 and Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Sikeston Career & Technology Center. The first day of MASH Camp included: an Air Evac helicopter tour, patient intubation demonstration and hands-on training, DNA extraction activity, infection control, proper handwashing, proper gloving procedures, vital signs, and CPR training.  Camp activities the second day included: an ambulance tour, backboard demonstration and training, injections on oranges, venipuncture (blood draw), surgery exploration and PPE, suturing on bananas, cow eyeball dissection lab, and first aid.

A special thank you goes out to the Sikeston Air Evac Lifeteam; Tami Kiefer, RN and flight nurse for Air Evac; the South Scott County Ambulance Service; Gloria Houston, RN; Christina Pavelko, 4th year KCOM medical student; and ACES student volunteers Victoria Adams and Makailya Pickrell for helping facilitate this exciting learning opportunity.
